Installation of a Briquetting and Packaging System in Smiltene Municipality

Challenge

Until now, the company sold its wood residues as raw material to other processors, which required regular transportation services and generated additional CO₂ emissions. To reduce its environmental impact, improve resource efficiency and create a higher value-added product, the company implemented an investment project with the support of ALTUM’s Business Greening Programme.

The aim of the project was to process wood residues into briquettes directly at the production site, reducing transportation volumes and greenhouse gas emissions.

RMP’s main task was to ensure stable briquette production at two of the company’s briquetting production sites, reduce the amount of manual labour and automate the preparation of finished products for transportation.

Solution

As part of the project, a briquetting and packaging system was supplied and installed, consisting of:

• 2 RUF Lignum R6 briquetting systems;
• Strojplast heat-shrink packaging machine with a side-feed conveyor;
• Strojplast pallet wrapping machine with openings for Euro pallets.

Equipment features

• high energy efficiency thanks to the innovative RUF hydraulic system;
• 2 RUF presses with a capacity of up to 847 briquettes per hour each;
• heat-shrink packaging machine capacity – 4–7 packages per minute;
• side-feed conveyor for a continuous packaging process;
• semi-automatic pallet wrapping with stretch film;
• reduced need for manual labour;
• low maintenance and operating costs.
